The term self-care describes individuals engagement in self-motivated health behaviors, health awareness, prevention, and self-management of illness or disability. Digital interventions offer a means to facilitate and support self-care behaviors by supporting self-awareness, encouraging safe self-testing with appropriate follow-up, and helping people self-manage their own health conditions with reliable linkages to high quality information and health care providers. The intersection of self-care and digital health has the potential to increase access to critical health services but also presents challenges and possible barriers.

Activities
The Self-Care Evidence and Learning Working Group of the Self-Care Trailblazers Group partnered with HealthEnabled to develop a framework that provides practical guidance for effectively designed, implemented, and researched digital health in support of self-care. The framework draws on a broad range of WHO and other self-care and digital health guidelines and standards and serves as a living document to guide designers, implementers, researchers, and policy makers as they embark on the digitization of self-care.
