- MomConnect Case Study
MomConnect is a South Africa National Department of Health (NDOH) initiative that provides tailored information to pregnant women and new mothers about pregnancy, birth and care of an infant. The NDOH launched MomConnect in August 2014 following the success of the MAMA initiative in Bangladesh and South Africa. The programme is available nationwide in all government clinics and reached 1 million pregnant women in 2016. Pregnant women are registered by health workers on mobile phones to receive SMS messages for the remainder of their pregnancy and for the first year of the child’s life. Women also receive alerts and are able to provide feedback regarding their treatment at public health facilities.
